The study will focus on some of the major themes found in Paul’s letter to the Philippians: humility, unity, Christ the Cosmic King, our citizenship in God’s Kingdom, the centrality of the cross in our theology, and the purpose for being united—the defense and proclamation of the Good News. We will follow the general procedure used in Bible Translation, looking at what Paul intended to communicate to the original recipients in Philippi, and then ask what the significance for us is today. The first session will be an introduction providing background information, and the first part of the letter (most of chapter 1). We will continue section-by-section of the letter until the final day, at which time we will summarize and draw conclusions.
